Join the Team. Share the Art. Get Paid.
For a few years now, I’ve been talking and doing a lot of brainstorming about how, as an independent artist, I would like to be and remain in control of my own art, as much as possible. It’s been a long process, with lots of yelling at myself, head-butting desks, late nights, and a little blood and sweat, but I feel like everything is finally starting to come together.
The first step was launching my site, so that people could purchase my art (and merch) directly, cutting out, or reducing the reliance on any middlemen — such as streaming platforms, playlist services (SubmitHub, Groover, etc.), Bandcamp, Etsy and the countless other services that allow you to sell your art, but bury you in fees and/or try to convince you that you shouldn’t get paid for the art that you’re paying THEM to make accessible to the world. Now that the site is live, I’m moving on to the next step, which is to join forces with my supporters — those who listen to, enjoy, purchase and share my art — to make a little spare change.
How, you ask?
By joining my “Team”. I’m offering those of you who truly support the art, to get a piece of the profits, when you spread the word of Qthulhu (I might actually change my stage name to this at some point). What does this mean, exactly? Well, to keep it simple, I’m allowing you the opportunity to sign up for my “Team” program (“affiliate” program sounds too “internet-y”) and if accepted, you’ll get a special link that when used, will give you 15% commission of any sales generated from that link — music only, merch is not included.
My only requirements to join(for now), is that you’ve made at least one song/EP/album purchase and are on the mailing list… or, you run a website/blog. Oh, and a PayPal to get paid… for now. In the future, I plan to add other options. If you meet these requirements, I’ll give the approval and you’ll gain access to a special dashboard that will allow you to keep tabs on how many people have visited the site from your link(s), as well as commissions and earnings generated from those links. You’ll also be granted the power to generate your own links, if you’d like to share a specific song, EP or album, and download creatives — such as cover art, or other marketing materials, once I provide them, that is.
It’s still very early phase, so there may be some feature changes, enhancements, etc., as things move, but for the most part, this is the next phase of my plan that will hopefully move beyond me — you will be seeing something similar with GRYSKLL in the near-ish future, and possibly (likely) others, once things really get rolling.
I’m designing, building, and integrating all of this stuff myself, so please pardon the dust.
That’s pretty much the gist of it. Any questions, thoughts, etc., please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or get in touch with me. Otherwise, head on over to the signup form and let’s go!
Until next time. — Q.
